Taylor caught the one on the left in one of the coops in March, it was almost seven feet long. This snake had swallowed five eggs. The two on the right were in the same coop in May. The smaller snake had swallowed three eggs and there was a dead hen in the coop. All three are 'Black Rat Snakes'. The are not venomous but they are very aggressive. About the only snakes I have seen that will bite before they try to get away. Some sources list the max length for this snake as 6 ft (72 inches) but two of these were longer than that. |
